Total Hip, Total Knee, Hip Fracture:

Newest Clinical Findings

Learn the latest on Total Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. This course combines the medical, surgical, and rehabilitative expertise of a nationally known, highly trained physical therapist with over 20 years of full-time clinical experience in Vanderbilt’s world-renowned shock trauma and orthopedic joint replacement center. The rich combination of vast clinical expertise and evidence-based practice provides participants with a unique opportunity to see the entire spectrum of care for the patient from prevention through treatment.

The course will review the anatomy and biomechanics of lower extremities with discussion of surgical techniques for hip and knee arthroplasty. Critical pathways (i.e., care plans), therapeutic treatment techniques, and rehabilitation protocols will be presented for total hip and knee surgeries. Pre- operative, acute care, and post-discharge concerns will be addressed and examples of a precise therapeutic exercise program within all clinical settings will be presented. Suggested protocols, sample home exercise instruction sheets, and home exercise programs along with evaluation and treatment guidelines will be given, thus providing therapists with information to improve their clinical practice related to hip and knee joint arthroplasty.

What participants are saying . . .

“Excellent course! Felt that the types of hip fracture repairs were helpful as well as the rehab for the hips and knees. Updated research for hips/knees also.”

“Great tip: Starting the patient with exercises on non-involved side so they understand the exercises prior to using on the effected side.”

“Included information from the latest studies showing recommendations for precautions, WB status, and best exercises for best results after total hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries.”

“Most valuable to me: Updated protocols, photos of joint components and x-rays to appreciate the differences, demonstration videos, comprehensive and updated list of return to sport and activities, which is very meaningful to our patients. Most of all I appreciate the attention to acute care phase, which is often overlooked or skimmed over in research and courses.”
