Balance and falls prevention are such important areas of our practice. We must be experts and be so comfortable in our ability to deliver the most effective and recent care in this area. We also need to be able to choose, progress, and integrate these programs into our patients’ daily lives.
This course will briefly go over some of the top quick, but effective, assessment tools for balance. Then the rest of the course will be focused on learning, practicing, and progressing some of the most effective balance protocols. You will not do too many but just enough to feel like you can choose from one or two that are appropriate for your clients/patients. Protocols from Hauer to Taylor’s that can even be used with people in chairs.
Not only will this course be interactive, but it will also be fun.
Introduction – Elevating our role, how much is too much or too little? (10 minutes)
Quick Tools to evaluate – High, medium, low level. (50 minutes)
Fall prevention in a chair – YES THERE IS EVIDENCE AND PROTOCOLS TO WORK ON BALANCE WHILE SEATED- Practice it, progress it, and use it. (30 minutes)
Protocols for higher level patients/clients – Hauer, I-Stronger, Proprioceptive – practice it, progress it, and use it (60 minutes)
Safe Landing and Fall Arrest Strategies – Practice, progress and use them. (20 minutes)
Sustainability. (10 minutes)
