The Motivational Paradox

Helping Ourselves Help Our Patients

Motivating our patients can be a double-edged sword. It can be difficult to find the best purposeful and meaningful activities to engage our patients. This is especially true when we might feel our own lack of energy and motivational due to the burn out that is so prevalent in our field. Productivity standards, reimbursement challenges, piles of research, family commitments, and our own self-care seem to pull each of us in so many directions. It is crucial to be able to balance these various areas in efforts to tune up our inner clinician and be at peak performance for our patients. It is then and only then that we might have a chance to motivate them to optimal function and independence. This webinar will help each of us overcome the barriers of therapist burn out as well as provide guidance on enhancing the motivation and adherence of our patients to maximize rehabilitation outcomes.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Outline effective strategies to ensure the optimal motivation and adherence of patients.
  2. Identify and address the signs of burnout.
  3. Develop and implement professional development plan to re-energize practice.
  4. Describe steps to continually maintain an evidence-based model of practice.
